5 Home Improvement Decisions That Won’t Improve Your Home

As a homeowner, you know what’s best for your household. Most of the time, that is. Thankfully, you have Handyman Connection® of West Omaha to help keep you from making cringey, regrettable and downright wrong home improvement decisions. Here are five home improvement decisions that aren’t likely to improve your home.

1. Planting a tree.

While your efforts to be eco-friendly are certainly commendable, your efforts are best directed somewhere else. This is because fully grown trees can increase the risks of injuries from fallen tree limbs. Moreover, tree roots can potentially break up your home’s foundation and cause plumbing problems. If you really want to plant a tree, medium and large ones must be planted at least 50 feet away from your home, if your property lines reach that far.

2. Painting over exterior brick.

Brick is such a lovely choice for an exterior, but if you find yourself getting tired of it, don’t paint over it. Instead, try a brick stain.

3. Put a Brick in the Toilet Tank

Don’t resort to the old-school way of decreasing water use. Instead of putting a brick in the water tank, just replace your toilet with a more water-efficient one.

4. Clean Windows When It’s Sunny

It might seem like a good idea, but cleaning your windows when it’s sunny outside dries the cleaning solution too quickly, resulting in unsightly streaks. Choose a cloudy day instead.

5. Update Exteriors Without HOA’s Approval

It’s your house, after all, so why shouldn’t you make changes to it? If you live in a community with a HOA, you could end up getting fined. Or worse, you’ll be told to undo your exterior renovation.

Handyman Connection of West Omaha is here to provide you with professional services and advice. Got home improvement plans? Run it by us! Call us today at (402) 819-4545 and we’ll give you a free estimate.
