Door Hardware: Picking the Right One For Your Home

Are you planning to change your door’s hardware soon? The kinds of door knobs and locksets aren’t just visually different; they function differently, too, and each one best fits a certain type of door more than the other. Handyman Connection of Rockville discusses more.

Exterior Door Hardware

For your entry doors, you want to make a good impression on your visitors. Your door hardware should be a handleset with either a lever and pull combo or a door knob and pull. Handlesets have intricate designs so they add some visual appeal to your entry door. Just make sure you pick the right design that fits your home’s architectural style.

We also suggest having us install a deadlock for your entry doors to boost your home’s security. While there are deadlocks for both door sides, it’s better to install them inside as it’s a safer choice.

Interior Doors

Hardware for interior doors come in either levers, knobs, or pulls. Door knobs are the all-round choice, and they work best when used on doors leading to your living rooms. Pulls are better suited for closets, while levers are the ideal choice for doors for the kitchen and bathroom.

If you’re planning to create an aging-in-place bathroom, levers are the better choice since they’re easier to operate and don’t require extra effort from your elderly family members to open.

Push-Button or Twist Locks?

You have two choices for locks – either the push-button kind or the twist locks. Push buttons are arguably the most popular since they’re very easy to operate. The downside is that through regular use, the locking mechanism can fail in time. Twist locks don’t degrade as easily as their push-button counterparts, but they otherwise operate the same way.
