5 Home Maintenance Resolutions to Consider This New Year

In addition to meeting health and fitness goals, consider making a few resolutions for your home as well. Today, Handyman Connection of Orange County discusses several easy tasks that will bring forth happiness, health, and even wealth throughout the new year.

1. Get Rid of Bathroom Mold

Reducing moisture levels is the key to keeping mold and mildew from thriving inside your bathroom. After taking a shower, remove water off walls and doors. Consider installing an exhaust fan if your bathroom doesn’t have one. It helps draw out moisture after a bath or shower.

2. Check Your Gutters

Make sure your gutters are clean and functioning properly throughout the year. Schedule gutter maintenance every time the seasons change. Remove dead leaves and other debris collecting inside the gutters and near downspouts.

3. Seal Drafty Windows

Drafts can lead to comfort issues, which then result in increased energy bills. Check your windows if the weatherstripping is coming loose or has worn down. If it is still in good shape but is loose in only a few places, put a bit of polyurethane sealant to the groove and press it into place.

4. Declutter Your Home Daily

By removing your clutter every day, you transform your home’s appearance and make it feel much more open and welcoming. Keeping your interior neat and tidy creates a big impact on how you feel about your home. AS long as you do a bit of it daily, keeping everything organized doesn’t have to take much work.

5. Restore Water Flow to Your Showerhead

Is water coming out of your showerhead growing weaker? It might be caused by mineral buildup. Remove the showerhead and soak it in a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar. You can, however, skip removing the head. Pour the water-vinegar mix into a plastic bag and attach it to the shower arm with a rubber band. Remove every 15 minutes to check the water flow.
