Though we all look forward to the coming of spring with its vibrant greens and warm breezes, one thing that most homeowners don’t look forward to is spring cleaning. However, if you look at it from the perspective that having a clean, orderly house will give you more time to spend with those who matter most, spring cleaning and decluttering may become a little more tolerable.
Regardless of how you feel about cleaning, be sure not to neglect the following areas when sprucing up your house this spring.
The walls of your home can get pretty dingy over the winter, especially if you have a lot of little fingers touching them. To get walls spotless again, first dust them, then clean them either with warm water or a mixture of water and mild dish detergent if you need a little more cleaning power. Once clean, check for areas that may require professional drywall repair. While you’re it, why not brighten things up with a fresh coat of paint? Painting is a quick and simple way to bring new life to a room, and you can even take advantage of the handyman painting services at Handyman Connection to make it even easier.
The baseboards tend to be ignored for a good part of the year, but they do accumulate scuffs, pet hair and dust, so be sure to give them a little TLC. A fresh coat of paint to make them really stand out wouldn’t hurt, either!
Don’t put up with drafty windows that allow outside air to leak into your home. Give your windows a once-over to make sure this isn’t an issue, and replace worn weatherstripping and caulking as needed. Then you can wipe down the frames and thoroughly clean the glass to get rid of the accumulation of dirt and grime that built up on the glass over the winter.
In regard to your home’s exterior, clearing out the gutters is an extremely important spring cleaning task. Gutters quickly become clogged with leaves, twigs and other debris, resulting in overflowing gutters that can cause roof leaks and damage to your home’s interior and exterior walls, in addition to its foundation and landscaping. To avoid this issue, clean out your gutters every spring and fall at minimum.
