3 Ways to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

Ways to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

What does energy efficiency mean? How can I get my home more energy efficient?

Energy efficiency refers to the ability of a system to perform its function using less energy. In other words, it means being able to convert the same amount of input into output with fewer resources.

Energy efficiency has become a major concern for everyone who wants to save money on their utility bills. The good news is that there are several ways to improve your home energy efficiency.

  1. The first and most obvious way is by making sure no heat escapes from your house during winter season. This means double glazing all windows in exterior walls as well as installing an insulation barrier around external wall surfaces. You need to insulate your attic too.
  2. A second way is to reduce water loss through air conditioning units and pipes. Many homes have problems with condensation because they don’t close the vents properly, allowing moisture to escape from the AC unit and causing mold growth on the inside of the ducts. To prevent this, you should seal all cracks around ductwork and install a dehumidifier in each room.
  3. Other ways to increase energy efficiency include replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), turning off lights when not needed, and unplugging appliances when not in use.
