Need More Outlets in Your Home? We Can Help!

Need More Outlets in Your Home

While the idea that less is more applies to some aspects of your home, you can practically never have too many electrical outlets. Unfortunately, contractors typically install a standard number of outlets in the properties they construct, not knowing what your personal energy needs may be. If you are building a new home or wish to increase the number of outlets in your current one, consider a few tips that may help you place these power sources effectively.

Power Access for Work

If you work from home or plan on working from home, it’s critical that you can efficiently reach electrical outlets around your workspace. For instance, try putting one or more outlets directly behind the area where you plan to set your desk so you can plug in your computer, printer, and other gear. Outlets with USB ports make it easy to charge your phone. It may also be a good idea to install an outlet on the floor so you can power a lamp.

Even if you don’t have a home office, you may need to use electricity for other tasks, such as building or repairing things in your garage. Homeowners with workbenches, for example, may benefit from having outlets just above the edge of the bench. Outlets on the lower surfaces of garage walls may also come in handy.

Power Access for Food Preparation

Your kitchen likely demands a great deal of electricity, as well. Appliances like your refrigerator, microwave, standing mixer, and toaster all require plug-ins. Having ample electrical outlets may make cooking more efficient while ridding this space of visible power cords. Be sure to place outlets along the walls where permanent fixtures will be located, while adding extras just above or below your countertop so you can plug in various devices temporarily.

Power Access for Recreation

Electrical power doesn’t just allow you to accomplish the things you have to do, it also opens up new opportunities to have fun. For instance, your family room may be home to technology such as a TV, DVD player, stereo, and gaming console. Make sure you place ample outlets in the areas where you plan to use these items, making sure to install them at the proper height for mounted devices.

Additionally, your family may need to access electricity during the holidays to power decorative lights. Consider placing outlets above mantles, for instance, so you can plug in lights and garland. You may also benefit from having outlets on the outside of your home for exterior holiday lights.

Power Access for Your Daily Routine

Finally, your day-to-day habits, including getting ready in the morning and relaxing in bed at night, may necessitate adding a few extra outlets. When it comes to using hair dryers, curling irons, and other electronic hygiene goods, it’s important that you install water-safe outlets near your bathroom sink. For even more convenience, consider placing outlets in one or more bathroom drawers so you can charge electric toothbrushes and razors.

Make sure you can also access the electricity you need at your bedside without having to get out of bed or step over cords. Consider, putting plug-ins just behind nightstands, for instance. In addition, be sure to install a switch beside your bed that turns off your main light.
