Saskatoon Storage Solutions: Organize Your Pantry Like a Pro With These Tips

Organize your pantry like a pro

If you want the making dinner process to be quick and easy every day, you need an organized pantry. Knowing exactly what you have at a glance ensures you’re never caught off-guard when you need an ingredient and makes creating grocery lists a snap. What if your current setup isn’t ideal? You can optimize with pantry storage solutions in Saskatoon.

Make a Kids’ Corner

Ensuring kids eat healthily is a lot of work, but strategic snack placement can make a big difference. Keep approved snacks within easy reach by placing them on the lowest shelf or a special basket on the floor. That way, you don’t have to worry about your little ones climbing shelves or falling off a stepstool.

Sugary snacks and candy can go on the top shelf in the back to keep them out of sight. When it’s time for a treat, you can divvy them out.

Take Inventory of What You Have

One of the most important things to do when optimizing your pantry is figuring out what you have:

  • Cans
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Loose foodstuffs

You should also take inventory of your various food groups and try to arrange items accordingly. Placing similar items together makes it easier to find what you need. Additionally, storing commonly used ingredients at eye level minimizes how often you have to bend down or reach up high. Less frequently used items can go on the top or bottom shelves.

Use Your Door Space

Vertical space is often overlooked yet makes phenomenal storage. For pantries, that means the door. There are plenty of hanging shelf options that instantly multiply your storage space. The pantry door is the perfect place to stow small items you use regularly:

  • Jars of dry goods
  • Oils
  • Spices

You can also install hangers for non-food kitchen items, such as aprons and grocery bags. If you have empty wall space in your pantry nook, don’t be afraid to use that as well. The more vertical space you use, the less cluttered your main shelves will be.

Choose Clear Containers

Loose foodstuffs should go in clear containers, allowing you to see the contents. That way, you don’t have to take the lid off just to identify the item or see how much you have left. Of course, some consumables are sensitive to light:

  • Potatoes
  • Zucchini
  • Carrots

You can find tinted glass or plastic containers that shield these foods and keep them fresh longer. Additionally, you can stow them on the bottom shelf or install drawers to block out light completely.

As you consider containers, also think about stackability. Most shelves have room for several layers of foodstuffs, and flattop containers help you make the most of that. While round or cylindrical storage options look cute on the counter, they aren’t optimized for space-saving, so stick with boxes for shelves.

Utilize Labels

Once you’ve decided where to put your food groups, label the shelves so guests can quickly find what they’re looking for. You can buy a fancy label maker that prints in a variety of fonts, or you can take the low-cost approach with markers and tape. Masking tape is sticky enough to stay in place for a while but comes off without damaging paint, so you can switch out labels whenever you need.

You can also use labels on opaque containers. After all, you shouldn’t get rid of perfectly good jars — a quick label keeps them useful and improves convenience.
