Regina Plumbing Service: Preventing Water Pressure Loss in Showers

Preventing pressure loss in showers

Flushing the toilet can cause a temporary disruption in water pressure. When water pressure is too low, taking a shower isn’t effective and can be uncomfortable. Here are some ways to troubleshoot the problem. Handyman Connection offers plumbing services in Regina if you can’t determine the problem or want help making repairs to avoid a bigger problem.

Determine the Extent of the Problem

Before you get too far into a project, you want to determine if the problem is widespread or just contained to the shower. Do you get good water pressure in the tub but not the shower? Check to see if both the hot and cold water is affected in the shower. Then check the sink faucet. Check the other faucets in your home. If you’re not getting water pressure throughout your home, it could be a problem at the water meter or with the provider. Once you know if the problem is located only in the bathroom, you can start troubleshooting.

Common Reasons You Aren’t Getting Water Pressure

Before getting too deep into looking at the pipes and other components of the shower, check the shower head. A low-flow showerhead can be stingy with water when it gets older. You might need to replace the showerhead to get back to normal. If the water pressure is low when you turn the hot water on, you might need to check your hot water heater. You’ll want a plumber to help you make repairs or replacements. Here are a couple of other reasons your water pressure may not work.

Broken Pipe

A broken pipe is probably one of the worst-case scenarios when you’re not getting water pressure. Listen carefully to hear the water from places you shouldn’t hear water. If you don’t hear water, but see water coming from odd places, it could also be a leak in your water line. Turn off your water main and call a plumber. Don’t try to find the leak and make repairs on your own. Plumbing can be tricky business.

Clogged Pipe or Showerhead

Hard water can cause mineral deposits in your pipes and in the showerhead. If the showerhead appears to be dirty or caked with white stuff, it may need to be cleaned. Take the showerhead off and put it in a cleaning solution for hard water deposits. Use an old toothbrush to clean out the nozzles. If that doesn’t help, your pipes may be clogged with mineral deposits. You may need to replace them or have them professionally cleaned. To avoid this problem in the future, install a water softening system.

Malfunctioning Diverter Valve

The diverter valve is what changes the water from the tub to the shower. If you get good water pressure from the bathtub faucet but not from the shower, it’s probably due to a malfunction in the diverter valve. The valve doesn’t fully open to let enough water through to the shower. A plumber from Handyman Connection can repair this quickly and easily.

Hire a Plumber To Fix Your Shower

A weak shower is an inconvenience you don’t have to put up with. These are the most common reasons you may have low water pressure but certainly not the only ones. Your plumbing system has many elements that can stop working due to age or damage. Plumbers have many tools that they can use to find out the issue to make repairs with as little disruption to your home as possible.

If you’re not sure what the problem is or don’t have experience with plumbing repairs, Handyman Connection can send a plumber to your home to diagnose the problem and make repairs so you can get back to your routine.
