4 Storage Solutions For Your Tools

4 storage solutions for your tools

There is a lot more to storage solutions in Regina than simply finding places to put things. Storage is also about keeping things organized. This is especially important when it comes to tools. You need to be able to find the tool you need quickly, and this is difficult when they are stored in an inefficient manner. You have a lot invested in your tools, and storing them improperly could lead to loss or damage. Here are some examples of effective storage solutions that you can try in your own workshop.

1. Hang Your Tools

This is a suggestion that can work with other storage solutions: Hang up your tools to store them. Hanging up your tools helps keep them organized so that you can find what you need immediately. It also helps you to utilize storage space more efficiently, which is especially important if you have limited space available. You can install a pegboard along a wall or inside a cabinet to provide places in which to hang your tools. Every tool should have a designated space on the pegboard so you can keep them organized while they are hanging in storage.

2. Use Plastic Totes With Labels

Hanging isn’t an effective solution for all types of tools. Some are awkwardly shaped and do not fit effectively on a pegboard. Examples include chalk tubes and paint rollers. You can organize these types of tools by keeping them inside plastic totes and then buying or building shelving on which to keep the totes organized.

Plastic totes used for organization and storage come in transparent and opaque varieties. Clear totes may be better for storing your tools because you can tell by looking at it what each tote contains. Nevertheless, regardless of whether you use clear or opaque totes for storage of oddly shaped or un-hangable tools, it is a good idea to clearly label each one, just so that everyone who uses the tools knows which of them go where and to avoid any confusion.

3. Add a Mobile Workbench

This is a good solution for storing the tools that you use most and always having them near to hand when you need them. A mobile workbench has storage built into the base so that you can store the tools you need most often while keeping the workspace at the top clear. It has wheels so that you can move it wherever you need it to go and always have access to your tools. You can further maximize the amount of storage space that a mobile workbench offers by hanging tools whenever possible, and adding pegboard as necessary.

4. Make Use of Cabinets’ Empty Space

Instead of a workbench, maybe you use a counter on top of cabinets, or maybe you have a cabinet hanging over your workbench. In many cases, the side of a cabinet is just empty space. You can take this apparent waste and make it into something useful by building a shelf or rack for extra tool storage and mounting it on the side of the cabinet. This allows you easy access to the small hand tools that you use most often. If you do most of your work in the same area, it may be even more convenient than a mobile workbench. You don’t even have to buy extra wood with which to construct your storage rack; scrap wood will do.

Even if the cabinet is not near your work area, you can still use it for storage. In that case, you would want to store tools that you do not use as often.
