3 Flooring Options To Consider for Your Master Bedroom

Best master bedroom flooring

The master bedroom is a place where you can relax and unwind at the end of a hard day. It should be comfortable, beautiful, and calming. With the help of floor tile installation services in Ottawa, you can improve the comfort, beauty, and functionality of the master bedroom by changing your flooring.

There are many different flooring options to consider, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. If you haven’t yet decided what material you want for your bedroom floor, here are some options to consider.

1. Prefinished Solid Hardwood

Solid hardwood is a durable flooring material that actually adds value to your home. It has a timeless look that integrates well with almost any type of décor and is very desirable to potential buyers if you think you may sell your home sometime. Hardwood is also a durable flooring material that can last for decades. If it sustains cosmetic damage, such as scratching or staining, it can be sanded down and refinished.

Getting prefinished solid hardwood helps your floors to last longer. They are treated at the factory with a chemical called aluminum oxide. This is a strong, sturdy finish that helps to protect your floors from scratches as well as normal wear and tear. Once the aluminum oxide has dried, it does not contribute to indoor air pollution by emitting harmful compounds. However, the chemical is too harsh to apply in the home because it could cause damage while still wet. Another benefit of choosing prefinished solid hardwood is that you know what the flooring will look like once it is installed in your home since you choose it partly based on the finish. If you were to buy unfinished solid hardwood and stain it yourself, the end result may not be exactly what you expected.

There are drawbacks to prefinished hardwood. Solid wood planks are susceptible to warping with exposure to water or humidity. Also, as implied by the name, they are hard and rigid.

2. Laminate

Laminate flooring consists of a core of particle material glued together with a photo of a more expensive flooring material on top encased in a transparent seal. It is a good way to get the look of hardwood more affordably without the disadvantages. For example, laminate is softer than hardwood and won’t make as much of an impact on your feet when you walk around on it. This can be important as you probably walk around the bedroom in bare feet. Laminate isn’t prone to warping with exposure to moisture as hardwood is. However, some varieties are more water-resistant than others, so this is something to check on before you choose your material.

Laminate comes in different qualities. Low-quality laminate has a bad reputation as being flimsy, but high-quality laminates are more durable and sometimes virtually indistinguishable from the more expensive materials they are mimicking. Before you decide on laminate flooring, you should check that the subfloor can support it. Problems with the subfloor can cause snapping of the laminate in which the boards separate from one another.

3. Engineered Hardwood

Engineered hardwood combines the beauty and durability of hardwood with the flexibility of laminate for a moderate price that is less than hardwood but more than laminate. It consists of a veneer of genuine hardwood mounted on top of several layers of plywood. This allows the material to expand and contract in response to temperature and humidity without warping, as hardwood may do.

The veneer of engineered hardwood is thick enough that you can sand and refinish it as needed, as you would be able to do with hardwood. Engineered hardwood is more resistant to water and humidity than solid hardwood. However, it could still be damaged by standing water, so clean up any spills immediately.
