Owning a home means constant decisions about upkeep and maintenance. It’s not always easy to know the right thing to do.
In this article, Handyman Connection® of Mason warns you against these five home improvement decisions that may seem like a good idea now but you’ll come to regret later.
1. Replacing your tub with a standing shower.
If you only have one bathtub, don’t make the mistake of getting rid of it for whatever reason. Settle for a compromise, like a bathtub with a built-in shower.
2. Use water-based paint on old wallpaper.
When inspiration strikes and you’re suddenly motivated to paint over that outdated wallpaper, go ahead. However, you shouldn’t use a water-based paint as it would reactivate the glue and cause the wallpaper to peel. Instead, you should use an oil-based primer, wait for it to dry, then apply latex interior paint.
3. Cleaning your windows on a sunny day.
While cleaning your windows when the sun is out might seem like a good idea, you’ll only need to do it once to find out that it’s a regrettable mistake. When it’s sunny, the cleaning solution will dry up too fast, leaving unsightly streaks on your window. Choose a cloudy day to do your window cleaning duties instead.
4. Not mowing your lawn before winter.
Tall grass provides cover for rodents from their natural predators, like hawks. These rodents will eventually find their way to your home come winter.
5. Not upgrading your thermostat.
This will end up costing you in terms of energy bills. Moreover, a non-programmable thermostat has to be manually adjusted all throughout the day, giving you one more task to worry about.
If you’ve already made some of these mistakes, don’t worry! Handyman Connection of Mason is here to help you set things right. We are your go-to home improvement company. Call us today at (513) 733-3777 for an estimate.
