Safety Tips for a Spooktacular Halloween!

Both adults and kids favor Halloween as their favorite holiday. However, Halloween can be associated with common hazards for both trick or treating and Halloween activities. Handyman Connection provides you with some safety tips to follow to ensure you have an all treat and no tricks Halloween!

Preparing for Visitors:

Restrain your animals before trick or treaters arrive to ensure no accidents happen due to nervous pets
Ensure working lights are in good order by replacing bulbs if necessary
Make sure your lawn is cleared off to make it less hazardous to trips and falls

Costume Safety:

Avoid masks for full vision and to not limit any breathing
Dress for the weather by layering your clothes for the chilly nights
Wear bright costumes or use reflective tape if dark clothes are necessary. Using a reflective treat bag is also a good idea

Avoid costumes that drag on the ground to ensure your child does not trip and fall

Trick or Treating:

Keep to paths and sidewalks or walk facing traffic on the left-hand side to be seen easier if no sidewalks
Bring a flashlight so nobody trips and falls
Keep to the well-lit houses and never go into someone’s home for treats
Anyone under 12 should be with an adult while older children should ensure they are at least with a group of people

Ask your children to provide you with a route so you know where they are for the night
