Creating a Pet-Friendly Environment in Your House

Whether you’re a dog or cat lover, there’s one thing you can agree on – your house needs to be more pet friendly. There are actually several ways you can do this and they don’t necessary require high upfront investments. Read on as Handyman Connection of Rockville discusses them.

Pet-Friendly Environment

Switch Your Flooring

We suggest you replace your old flooring with more durable ones. Polished planks, for example, are very slippery which can be dangerous for older animals. It’s also very difficult to clean off paw prints and their accidents.

We recommend getting laminate flooring since they have naturally abrasive surfaces and are stain-resistant, making them very easy to clean. If you don’t like laminate, then stone, painted concrete, and ceramic tiles are also good flooring. If you want to stick to wood, go with hardwood flooring.

Get Pet-Friendly Carpet

Ditch the throw rug and old carpet and get a more pet-friendly option in the form of wall-to-wall carpeting. This not only gives your pet more places to nap around blissfully, but it also creates a non-slip surface that’s safer for you and your pets to tread on. We suggest going with darker, earth-tone colored carpeting so that pet hair isn’t easier to see. Low-pile carpeting is the best choice since it’s naturally stain-resistant and very easy to clean.

Switch to Synthetic Fabrics

Finally, we suggest choosing furniture that has synthetic fabrics like denim or canvas. These are scratch-resistant, and in the case of Crypton super fabrics, boast higher stain, moisture, and odor resistance. These fabrics are aesthetically pleasing as well and can really modernize your home with its minimalist looks.

These are just a few ways you can make your home more pet-friendly for your furry friend. Need help creating a pet-friendly environment in your home? Fill out our form or give us a call at (301) 740-8865 for more information on our services.
