4 Tips to Make Sure Your Home Is Ready for Spring

Spring is a transition period, making it the ideal time to do maintenance work and repair problems around the house. But which tasks should you prioritize first? Handyman Connection® of Rockville discusses the four must-do maintenance tasks for Spring.

  1. Inspect Your Foundation Vents – The vents along the foundation walls provide air circulation that can help prevent excess moisture and mold growth. Since the screens for these vents collect leaves and other debris during fall and winter, spring is the perfect time to clean them out. You can clean the vents by hand or use a vacuum.

  1. Clean the Air-Conditioning and the Refrigerator Coils  – Spring is also the best time to check if your AC and refrigerator coils are still performing well. Dust and dirt can affect the coils, so have them cleaned regularly. You can actually just vacuum the coils without disassembling the casing. If the coils are rusty, you might want to replace them so they don’t fail when they’re most needed during summer.

  1. Roof Repair and Maintenance – Your roofing system is exposed to constant elemental damage, so you need to perform regular maintenance work. Once the season starts, your roof has just gone through snow, ice and heavy rain during the winter. Address leaks, cracks and missing shingles so the roof is ready for the heat and humidity during summer.

  1. Clean Your Gutters – Spring showers will arrive soon, so it’s about time to clean your gutters. Keep your gutters free of dirt and debris so water flows naturally and without interruption. This will help prevent foundation and landscape damage from clogged and overflowing gutters.
