Home Maintenance / June 20, 2018
Making your home ready for summer is easier said than done, considering that your house may have just gotten through winter and spring a little worse for the wear. Though it can be challenging, it’s important that you do this so your home remains comfortable and safe throughout the season.
Readying your home for summer requires more than just a little vacuuming and dusting, though. In this post, your experts at Handyman Connection of Rockville share four tips to create a summer-ready home.
1. Clean the Gutters
Your house’s gutters would have experienced a lot of clogging during winter and spring, so it’s important that you clear these as soon as the spring showers are over. Remove as much as you can, especially the leaves and gunk, as these are the main perpetrators when gutters get clogged and overflow. For less maintenance and more protection, you might want to consider installing a gutter cover, too.
2. Replace Your Filters
Ideally, you should replace filters every 3 to 6 months, but summer is the best time to replace all of the filters in your home, as the temperature is going to change drastically. Replace the water and range hood filters, as well as the air filters; the latter are especially important to ensure comfort and energy efficiency during the hot season.
3. Have Your Roof Inspected
The roof is your home’s first line of defense against the elements, and winter and spring typically give it the hardest time. Your roof is sturdy enough to shrug off most weather, but you should still make sure it’s in good shape by having a professional do an in-depth inspection on your roof.
While you can certainly inspect the roof yourself, you may not be able to spot all of the problems, such as leaks and moisture damage in the deep recesses of the roof. By doing timely roof inspection this summer, you’ll know what course of action to take for your roof.
4. Clean Your Outdoor Furniture
Summer is the season for outdoor fun and entertainment, and you don’t want to invite guests when all of your outdoor furniture is still recuperating from the winter weather. As part of your general cleaning, make sure you extend it outside to your pergolas, decks and garden areas.
