The Proper Way to Organize Your Closet

Organizing your closet is extremely difficult, especially if you’re always in a hurry to go to work or drive the children to school. That said, it’s still a good idea to allocate time in your busy schedule to properly organize your closet.

In this post, Handyman Connection® of Rockville discusses how to properly organize your closet.

Set a Staging Area

First, you should set a staging area where you can empty out your closet. We recommend a cleared-out portion of the room, or even a desk or chair. You can even use the bed itself. Remove everything in the closet, from the clothes to the boxes, and arrange them neatly in your staging area.

Organize and Categorize

After your place all of your closet items in your staging area, then it’s time to organize and categorize your items. It’s a good idea to separate your indoor clothes from the outdoor ones and start remove he items that shouldn’t be in the closet. These also include the items you plan to get rid of eventually. After all, one of the biggest causes of closet clutter are the things that shouldn’t be in there in the first place.

Eliminate the Unnecessary

Next, get rid of all the unnecessary items that shouldn’t be in the closet in the first place. These include knick-knacks and old clothing. For the old clothes, you don’t necessarily have to throw them away. You can donate them, keep them in a larger storage area or sell them in a garage sale.

Clean and Organize

Finally, give the closet a good cleaning up before you return all of your clothing and essentials. Dirt and debris aren’t just unsightly, they reduce closet space as well. They also ruin your perfectly clean clothes, so clean the closet before you place your items back.

Do this once every month and you’ll make sure your closet stays clean and organized every time. Let Handyman Connection of Rockville help you with the rest of your home improvement needs. Call us today at (301) 740-8865 or fill out our form for an estimate on our services.
