Hire a Pro for These 3 Home Carpentry Projects

Just because you have a saw, a hammer and some nails at home does not mean that you should be a carpenter.  While there are some things you can certainly DIY around the home, certain projects are just better left to the pros.

Just because you have a saw, a hammer and some nails at home does not mean that you should be a carpenter.  While there are some things you can certainly DIY around the home, certain projects are just better left to the pros.  First, your time is valuable and if you are not a full time contractor or carpenter, you probably have another job as well as a life.  Why take time away from either of those to spend hours trying to figure out how to complete a carpentry project when you could allow an experienced contractor to do it?  Speaking of experience, a contractor or handyman knows how to properly complete the carpentry projects that you need, ensuring that they are done well.  This is not only important so that they look good but so that they actually add value to your home, rather than take value away from your home!  Lastly, if you are inexperienced in woodwork and you try to complete a carpentry project, you will be working with large and dangerous tools that could cause you injury.  Why risk it?  When it comes to home carpentry projects, these 3 tasks are just better left to the pros!

  1. Beadboard or Wainscoting Installation
    • Beadboard or wainscoting installation may seem relatively straightforward. You just trim the beadboard or wainscoting to size, grab a nail gun and attach it to the wall, right?  But, the tricky part is that walls are often not straight or level and navigating corners can throw a major wrench into the equation.  You could spend countless hours measuring, cutting, adjusting and more.  And, you could (and will likely) end up wasting a lot of materials which means wasted money.  A contractor will know how to properly measure and adjust as well as properly install beadboard or wainscoting so that you home (and electrical behind the walls) is not damaged in the process.
  2. Baseboard or Trim Installation
    • Similar to beadboards and wainscoting, installing baseboard and/or trim can be incredibly challenging because walls are simply not flat and lines are simply not straight. It would be so nice if everything was perfect and straightforward but almost no home is that way.  Additionally, choosing the right size and style baseboard for your home can be difficult but a professional handyman or contractor will be able to lend their experience and expertise to the decision so that you invest in the right baseboard or trim for your home.
  3. Interior or Exterior Door Installation
    • Installing interior or exterior doors is no simple feat – even if it seems that way. First, doorways are not always perfectly rectangular (even if they look that way) so a door may have to be adjusted or trimmed slightly to fit properly and snuggly.  Also, exterior doors in particular are a critical component of your home’s energy efficiency.  If they are not installed correctly they could slowly (or quickly) leak expensive air conditioning out of your home or allow cold air to enter your home, necessitating costly heating.  Improve energy efficiency and ensure proper installation by using a professional.
