Tips for Choosing Shower Tiles for Your Bathroom Remodel

Bathroom Remodel tips

If you are designing a new bathroom or remodeling your bathroom, you are probably making some changes to your shower.  There are many different tiles to choose from when choosing shower tile.  From low maintenance to high maintenance and styles for every type of home decor.  So, how do you choose the right tile shower for you?  There is no set of rules to follow but you can follow some basic tips and let personal style as well as practicality influence your decision when choosing shower tile.

When choosing shower tile, it is important to consider your lifestyle and the maintenance level you would prefer with your shower tile.  Some shower tile is easier to clean and maintain than others.  It is important to choose water resistant tiles since the shower tiles will be wet frequently and will be protecting your walls from moisture.  While using the same tile in the shower that was used on the floor can make a bathroom have a continuous feel that can enlarge a space, do not feel scared to use a different style tile in your shower.  Large tile in the shower will mean less grout which means less cleaning of grout.  If you do not have a lot of time to clean your shower or have no desire to have something that is a little more high maintenance, large tile may be the way to go.  Small tile can give a nice contrast and add visual interest, but along with that will come more grout which means a bit more maintenance.  Small tile also works better and looks much better than large tile on any curves.  Do not think purely of function but also of style.  Just like you can add a pop of color or create an accent wall with paint or wallpaper in another room in your home, you can do the same in the shower.  Vary pattern, size or shade of tile on one wall of the shower to create visual interest or make a wall stand out.  It will draw the eye and allow you to put a personal touch of style on your shower.  Once you have chosen the primary tile for your shower, consider adding a mosaic border or a recurring border with a different color and size tile to break up the design of the shower and make it look more unique and custom.  If there are niches in the shower, it is also a good idea to use a different size and or pattern tile in the niche to make it stand out.  When choosing tile you also cannot forget your budget.  Some tiles are much more budget friendly than others.  Overstock points out how budget will influence your shower tile choices, “Using certain tiles, such as glass and marble, to cover your shower walls may be cost-prohibitive. If you have a strict budget but would still like to incorporate these tiles in your design, use them as accents. Intersperse them with less expensive tiles or use them as borders around the edges of the tiled wall.”  For any additional questions that may arise or guidance you may need, hire a reliable and experienced handyman to install your new shower tile and complete your bathroom remodel.  Handyman Connection can assist you with any of your bathroom remodeling needs and help you create your dream bathroom.
