4 Common Safety Hazards In Your Home

While your home is a safe environment where your family can grow and thrive, it’s not necessarily the absolute safest place in the world. Indeed, there are common safety hazards right on your property and in some cases, you only realize that they’re a hazard when an accident happens. Handyman Connection of Novi lists four common safety hazards in your home and simple solutions to address them.

 Safety Hazards

 1. Slippery Bathrooms

Your home’s bath space is arguably the most dangerous part of your home, simply because of the high risk of slips. The last thing you want is to end up getting injured by slipping and landing on a hard tile surface. You can reduce slips in the bathrooms by simply placing rugs on the floor. We also suggest investing in non-slip stickers to install on the floor of your shower space.

2. Staircase Dangers

The majority of house accidents happen when someone trips or slips going up or down the stairs. To prevent staircase injuries, make sure you install solid handrails and secure the flooring on the stairs. We also suggest installing ample lighting on the stairs. Safety gates are also a good investment, especially if you have smaller children who are starting to explore.

3. Electrical Fire

Electrical fires are a common home hazard, but they are also one risk that you can avoid simply by unplugging electrical equipment that’s not in use. Small appliances like toasters, microwaves, television sets, and laptops should be unplugged when idle.

4. CO Poisoning

Carbon monoxide poisoning is actually a rare home hazard, but it still pays to be prepared. Installing a CO detector is a good way to monitor your home’s carbon monoxide levels. We also recommend that you have us do a monthly check on your HVAC system, water heater, and any appliances that use gas or oil to ensure that they’re still working and not in danger of causing a CO leak.
