Going Green Saves You Money: Here’s How You Do It

Going green may seem like a passing fad for some, but being environmentally responsible is actually rewarding. A green home consumes less energy, and that translates to lower energy bills. You don’t necessarily have to make a big investment to do it, either. Read on as Handyman Connection of Novi discusses simple ways to make your home a greener household.

Going Green

Replace Incandescent Bulbs with LED

If you haven’t yet, we suggest replacing your incandescent bulbs with LED. It uses 75% less energy to power up and lasts 25 times longer, making it a smart investment to lower your energy bills for the long-term. LED lighting is also safer to use since it’s sturdier and cooler than incandescent lighting.

Replace Your Old Windows

Your window plays a vital role in ventilating and insulating your home. An older window has already lost its innate airtight seal, and this means it isn’t properly ventilating your home anymore. Look for windows with an ENERGY STAR® rating and install these as replacement. These are more energy-efficient thanks to their stronger airtight sealing and higher UV light resistance.

Install Low-Flow Shower Heads

You waste a lot of water when you shower, so if you want to save some water, we suggest installing a low-flow shower head. Not only do these consume less water, but they also require less energy to power up and operate, making it a good investment that pays itself back with lower water and energy bills.

Wash Your Clothes With Cold Water

85% of your energy usage goes to powering up the heating the water in your washing machine. To save on energy, we suggest you simply wash your clothes with cold water and dry them in a drying rack or clothesline.

These are just a few ways you can save energy by going green in your home. Need help replacing your appliances with greener ones? Fill out our form or give us a call at (248) 697-9600 for an estimate on our services.
