5 Outdoor Lighting Ideas

If you’re looking for unique, trendy ways to brighten up the lighting around your home, our crew here at Handyman Connection of Lexington has some ideas for you. Some are even some fun, DIY projects you can tackle in an afternoon.

Hanging Mason Jars

Mason jars have always been and will continue to be a popular lighting idea. With some copper wire, you can hang them from the railings of your deck or from the trees in your yard. All you have to do is place a battery-operated “candle” in each one, and turn the lights on. It looks rustic and unique. You can also get a little more creative and tint the mason jars prior to hanging them to help match the design theme throughout your backyard.

Glow in the Dark Pots

A fun, creative way to add some light throughout your backyard and get your kids involved at the same time is to brighten up any pots or planters you may have with glow in the dark paint. You can simply paint the entire pot or paint unique designs to match the theme of your backyard.

Create Your Own Outdoor Chandelier

Create your own chandelier with just a few items that you can probably find laying around your home or at a local dollar store. All you need is a hula-hoop, stringed lights, and some string. Simply wrap the lights around the hula-hoop and hang the chandelier with the string. You can change it up a bit and add some fabric around the chandelier or use different colored lights. Either way, you can make it your own.

Tiki Torches

Tiki torches are always a great and easy way to create light. You can keep the tiki torches the way they are, or you can try updating them with some fresh paint or by wrapping stringed lights around them.

Light Runner with Bottles

Recycle old beer or wine bottles by turning them into a useful light fixture. Simply clean out the bottles thoroughly and run twinkle lights through each one. This is a good way to recycle and to brighten up your backyard here in Lexington.
