Pro Holiday Decorating Tips

The holidays are upon us! Are you ready? Nope? Neither are we, but we are here to help. That’s why our crew here at Handyman Connection of Lexington has put together a few recommendations and suggestions to keep in mind as you begin decorating your home this holiday season. Hopefully this will help you in that cheery holiday spirit, instead of the overwhelming feeling you may get by having to do so many things.

#1 – Creativity

Decorating your home can seem a little overwhelming when you’re starting from scratch, but one thing we’d like you to keep in mind is to embrace your creativity. There isn’t necessarily a “Holiday Decorating 101” handbook, but there are lots of resources to help guide you and help encourage your creativity so that you create a really magical atmosphere in and around your home. Simplicity is always a good thing to keep in mind when starting your holiday decorations, but that doesn’t mean limiting your creativity.

#2 – Green

One of our favorite recommendations here in Lexington, is to embrace greenery. The trend of faux trees, garlands, and wreaths is popular, but nothing beats the real stuff. Consider a live tree this year, or consider making wreaths with your family made of real evergreen, flowers, or berries. It’s a fun activity, and you can make it totally your own. Natural plant life and seasonal flowers can really transform a space, without much work or time investment.

#3 – Smells

One of the many ways to encourage those nostalgic feelings that the holidays bring is through the many scents and smells associated. Incorporate holiday-scented candles throughout your home to encourage that nostalgia. Some of our crew likes to simmer orange peels and cloves on their stoves to create their own smells and scents that will linger around their home for hours.

#4 – Trends

Sometimes trends can seem less personable or customizable, but doesn’t have to be the case this year. Many holiday trends are here to stay, so run with some of the ideas that trends can bring and make them your own. You can find lots of ideas for the latest trends on sites like Pinterest or by talking to your friends and neighbors. Let us know which one is your favorite

#5 – Safety

As you are beginning to install your decorations, make sure to take extra safety precautions when doing so. If you’re putting up decorations outside make sure you are using a sturdy ladder and that you have an extra pair of hands helping you and spotting your ladder. Many accidents happen from putting up holiday decorations, and we don’t want you to fall into that category. Exercise an extra level of precaution when you’re installing your decorations, and be safe this holiday season.
