The summer makes me think of starry nights, campfires and spending time with my family. If you don’t have a fire pit in your backyard, here are some tips that will tell you everything you need to know about how to build a fire pit. Follow our guide to building the best fire pit for your backyard, even if you don’t know where to start or just want some ideas.
Before you begin building or buying supplies, ask yourself these questions:
Where do you want to build a fire pit? It might look nice to have it on your patio near your house, but have you thought about the smoke coming in through your windows? You’ll need to make sure it’s far from any plants, bushes, or sheds. If your property has a lot of trees, the area above the fire pit needs to be free of them.
Mark the spot of the fire pit with spray paint and dig it out a few inches. Tamp it down, fill it with gravel, wet the gravel with the garden hose, and then tamp it down again until it is only a few inches below the surface.
You should put your bricks down first without glue to make sure everything fits. Use sand to raise any bricks and a rubber mallet to push them down. Once the fire ring fits, use glue to hold all of the bricks together.
That is how to build a fire pit. Wait until the glue is dry to use the fire pit. Bring new life to your backyard with this new piece.
