5 Ways to Ready Your Home for the Holidays

With the holidays approaching fast, there are probably more and more preparations that you need to make. From the exterior to the interior, ensure that your home is holiday-ready.

Make Your Entrance Safe and Welcoming

Clear your walkways and porches of ice and snow. These usually are fall hazards so you have to ensure everyone’s safety. Make sure that all your outdoor lighting are working, too. This is especially important if you have guests coming over in the evening when it’s dark.

It would also be ideal to designate an area or room where coats, jackets and boots may be collected and stored for the meantime. That said, you might want to consider adding hangers to your coat closet and placing an extra doormat for wet boots.

Tidy Up Your Living Spaces

Check your carpet, and schedule a professional cleaning if it doesn’t look its best. Make sure your windows are clean as well so that your guests can clearly see your decorations outside.

Clean Your Bathrooms

Give your bathroom a fresh look by regrouting the tiles. This is an easy job that could make a total difference to your bathroom and make it look cleaner. Also, check your bathroom for signs of mold or mildew.

Have extra bath and hand towels for your guests as well. To keep them in the holiday spirit, you might want to consider special towels with a holiday theme.

Ensure Your Kitchen Has Everything You Need

You’ll likely be working hard in your kitchen during the holidays so make sure it’s ready for all the cooking chaos. Check your cabinets, countertops and appliances. If you’re up to it, you might want to rearrange your appliances and have them installed under countertops. This will give you more space. Alternatively, you can build a kitchen island instead.

Freshen Up Your Guest Rooms

Have fresh linens for the guest beds, and provide some closet space or a drawer to make your guests feel more at home.
