4 Things to Do Before the Big Move

Moving can be both exciting and challenging, and it’s easy to get caught up in the atmosphere of moving and start forgetting about the little details that may make the entire process either easy or very difficult. 1. Get Rid of Unnecessary Items

Things that you may have outgrown or no longer need shouldn’t be making the trip with you to your new home, so get rid of those items. Not only does this free up packing space, but it also reduces clutter in your future home. So, before the big move, allocate a day or two to do a quick garage sale. You can also donate your old things or let friends and loved ones take their pick.

2. Inform Important Contacts About Your New Address

The last thing you want is for mail and important packages to get sent to your old address. So, at least a week before you move, make sure you update your family, friends, bank, credit card company, school or similar institutions with your new address.

3. Do an Inventory of the Things You’ll be Taking

It’s always a good idea to categorize the stuff you’re planning to move as it makes packing them easier. It also ensures you don’t have to open all of your moving boxes once you arrive, which reduces clutter and makes arranging your new home easier to do.

4. To Hire or Not to Hire?

Finally, you need to decide if you’re going to hire a mover to handle your belongings. While it’s tempting to simply do it on your own, it might take more time, especially if you have to make multiple trips.

Finally, make sure you don’t pack your important documents in the boxes or in the moving van. Bring your bank book, passport and any important paperwork in the car with you. The last thing you want is to lose these important documents during the move.
