7 Tips to Improve Air Quality in your Home

You and your family spend a lot of time in your home, which means that the quality of the air in your home is very important to your overall health. Aside from contacting the professionals at Handyman Connection of Eden Prairie, there are small things that you can do yourself that will help improve the quality of the air in your home. All it takes is a little attention to how the air flows throughout your house to make sure that you and your family are getting the best quality air possible.

Change Your Filters Regularly

You should change the filters in your central air conditioning system and your furnace at least once every three to four months. When you change the filters in your home’s environmental systems, you are giving those systems every chance to circulate clean air throughout your home instead of airborne toxins.

Open the Windows

During the spring and summer, you should open your windows as often as possible to allow the air inside your home to be replaced with fresh air. Remember to have good screens on your windows to prevent bugs and other pests from getting into your home while you are enjoying that outside air.

Have a No Smoking Policy

The smoke from pipes, cigarettes and cigars can get into your walls, furniture, ceiling and rugs and recirculate throughout your home indefinitely. That is why your home should have a no smoking policy that makes no exceptions. Even if you smoke, you should take your smoking outside to keep the air inside your home clean.

Clean and Vacuum the House Frequently

When you clean your house and vacuum at least once a week, you are not allowing allergens and other airborne pests to multiply and become a problem. If you do not have time to do a full cleaning every week, then either set aside time one weekend a month or bring in a professional service to thoroughly clean your home.

Keep Live Plants

Live plants will help to filter the air in your home and keep it clean for you and your family. If you have pets, then be sure that you do not have plants that can harm your pets in any way.

Bathe Your Pets

Pet dander can build up on your pets and throughout your house if it is allowed to go unchecked. The solution is to bathe your pets each week, and prevent the dander from ever getting a chance to take hold in your home.

Wash Your Drapes and Small Rugs

Over time, your drapes and small rugs will accumulate allergens that will get released into your home and cause problems with the quality of your air. But if you wash your drapes and small rugs at least once a month, then you can eliminate the problem and keep your air clean.

When you are outside your home, it is difficult to control the air you breathe. But within your home, you have much more control over the quality of your air. You can utilize these methods and Handyman Connection of Eden Prairie for keeping the air inside your home clean to help protect you and your family from disease.
