fire pit

If you are planning on building a fire pit in your backyard, there are many ways to do so, but let’s build a fire pit in the most efficient way possible. See our craftspeople’s favorite way of building a fire pit for you and your family to enjoy this season.

Tools

You will need a selection of tools before you build a fire pit. Make sure you have all these before you start.

  • Tape Measure
  • Mallet
  • Level
  • Concrete
  • Stone Pavers
  • Garden Hose
  • Tampers
  • Gravel
  • Adhesive
  • Spray Paint
  • Shovel

Think about how you can customize this selection. For example, your fire pit can be different shapes depending on what bricks you select. Square and rectangular bricks can make a square or rectangular fire pit. Trapezoidal bricks can create a ring. There are many different colors and styles to choose from as well.

The Steps: How to Build a Fire Pit

  1. Check for local area and building codes that do not allow fire pits.
  2. See if your insurance has any policy rules about having a fire on your property.
  3. Spray paint where the fire pit will go.
  4. Dig the shape of the pit out several inches and tamp until level.
  5. Fill hole with crushed gravel and wet with the hose.
  6. Tamp until level and a few inches from the sod’s surface.
  7. Lay out the bricks and make sure the fire ring fits on top.
  8. Make bricks level with the mallet or by filling underneath with sand.
  9. Set with adhesive and let cure before use.
