How should you best re-grout tiles? That depends on the type of grout you are using. How grouts are mixed, what they are made of, how hard they are, etc., are all different. For example, if you used grout made of water or latex, you probably don’t need to do anything else to clean it up. After about twenty minutes have passed since your last soapy wash, you should just use a damp sponge and then a dry rag to wipe up any leftover soap. You might have to do this more than once to get rid of all the residue.
If you used solvent-based grout or epoxy grout, you should first rinse the area with a solution of detergent and water that has about 1โ2 tablespoons of detergent per gallon of water. Before moving on to the next step, let the area dry out well. Once you’ve cleaned up any extra resin or filler, you can add more grout to seal the area and make a solid base for your tile work.
Use a putty knife, razor knife, or something to spread the new grout over the base as instructed for the type of grout you are using. If you use a brush, toothbrush, or paintbrush, you can cover the brush marks with another layer of grout. To seal all the tiles, you should grout with a non-abrasive glue or an absorbent-based grout.
Once the tiling is done and all the extra grout has been removed or at least vacuumed up as much as possible, you should fix any scratches in the tiling. If your tilework has scratches, you should put a small amount of epoxy filler on them before putting the tiles in place.
