Home Improvement / July 2, 2019
Summer is the best season for getting home improvements done, and many of them are easy enough that you can do them in an afternoon. In this blog, Handyman Connection® of Boise discusses the home improvements that you can do during the summer season.
Clean the Porch Lights
Glass light enclosures can get encrusted by dirt, limiting how much light they can emit. Fortunately, most types of enclosures are easy to remove and even easier to clean. For non-removable types, turn the power off first, and carefully wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. Then, dry with a separate clean cloth. Cleaning the porch lights can also be an opportunity to update them to LED bulbs.
Inspect the Thermostat
HVAC inspection is generally done during spring, but if you haven’t done so for this summer, at least make sure your thermostat is working. Set the thermostat a few degrees off your usual setting, and see if your thermostat responds. If not, reset your thermostat, clean the contacts, and replace the battery as needed.
Clean Your Windows
Windows are ideally cleaned during summer because it’s less likely to rain. Certain types of windows require washing with a mild soap and water solution. Make sure you use a squeegee or a microfiber cloth to wipe the window glass to avoid water spots. Most of today’s windows feature tiltable or removable sashes for easy cleaning.
Clean Your Outdoor Deck
Summer wouldn’t be summer if you don’t host a backyard party at least once. If you’re expecting guests, it’s best to have your outdoor deck cleaned and maintained as well as repaired if needed. The same goes for the deck furniture and your grill: cleaning now can save a lot of time in case your guests arrive early.
