Things Every Homeowner Should Do Before Moving In

Have you recently purchased a home here in Blue Ash, and are looking forward to the day you and your family can move in? Before you do, make sure to look and follow these suggestions and things to do that our crew at Handyman Connection of Blue Ash has put together.

  1.     Change Your Locks

Especially when buying a used home, you should keep in mind that many people including the previous homeowner could potentially have an extra set of keys to the home. There could be countless amounts of copies of the keys to your new home floating around. That being said, it’s highly recommended to change the locks on all exterior doors prior to moving anything in the home. This helps to prevent any potential break ins, burglaries, or accidents. It’s not an expensive item to tackle, but the benefits outweigh any associated cost.

  1.     Deep Clean

Next, it’s also recommended to take advantage of the empty home and do an extensive deep clean. Having a completely empty home is a rare opportunity that you will likely not be faced with again in the immediate future. Hire a professional, or take a few days to clean the home thoroughly. You can also use that time to make sure all appliances are in tip top working order.

  1.     Check Your Insulation

Be sure to take a very good look at the insulation in your home, if you haven’t already done so prior to the purchase of the home. Make sure there is at least 6 inches of insulation in the area, and add more if that doesn’t appear to be the case. It’s much easier to do this when the home is empty and before you’ve started other repair projects.

  1.     Paint

Our crew here in Blue Ash would also recommend taking time to freshen up any paint that you notice isn’t in beautiful condition. Again, the opportunity is rare to have an empty home, which makes small maintenance projects like painting much simpler and faster. If you don’t want to do it yourself, give our crew a call and we can get your paint refreshed in a jiffy!
