Many times rooms can seem a little dull and can even appear darker than they really are. Don’t fret. There are a few tricks that the crew at Handyman Connection of Blue Ash has up their sleeves to help brighten up a darker room without completely changing the room. Check out these 7 ways to help.
#1 – Bring in the plants.
Consider bringing the outside indoors by adding more “living” houseplants into a dark room. For starters, plants are natural air purifiers and will bring a quality into a room that decorations and objects simply are unable to do. The plants will create a sense of light into the room.
#2 – Put a halt on dark colors.
By limiting dark accent colors, your room will automatically brighten up. Replace dark accessories with brighter ones such as light throw blankets, wall art, and other design features. These subtle adjustments will make a noticeable difference.
#3 – Refresh paint.
Another really effective way to brighten up a dark room is to refresh the paint on the walls. Sometimes you don’t even need to change the color, but by just refreshing the paint the room will appear fresh and bright. However, our crew at Handyman Connection of Blue Ash would encourage you to consider adjusting the color to a lighter color if your goal is to brighten up the room.
#4 – Minimize and rearrange your furniture.
While this may seem a bit surprising as a solution to your dark room issue, rearranging your furniture can actually help brighten up a space. Too much clutter can make the space seem smaller and can appear darker. Adjust the flow of the room by either minimizing the furniture in the area or by rearranging your current setup. You’ll be surprised at how different the room will look and feel.
#5 – Incorporate brighter rugs.
Depending on the space, you may want to try buying a lightly colored rug to tie the room together while also making it appear brighter. This is also a nice way to get creative with the design of the space.
#6 – Replace bulbs.
Replace old, outdated bulbs with brighter and higher quality bulbs. Also, take this opportunity to take a look at your light fixtures and determine if you should replace them or minimize their size. Larger featured light fixtures can actually do the opposite of making the room appear brighter if the size overwhelms the area.
#7 – Incorporate mirrors.
Lastly, consider incorporating mirrors, as they are natural light reflectors. Adding a large mirror to a darker room can instantly brighten up the space, and give the illusion that the room is bigger than it really is.
At Handyman Connection of Blue Ash, our goal is to help make your house a home. For any and all of your home maintenance projects or if you have any questions about other ways to make a darker room appear lighter, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
