5 Outdoor Lighting Ideas

If you’re looking for unique, trendy ways to brighten up the lighting around your home, our crew here at Handyman Connection of Austin has some ideas for you. Some are even some fun, DIY projects you can tackle in an afternoon.

Hanging Mason Jars

Mason jars have always been and will continue to be popular. Use that to your advantage by creating hanging mason jar lanterns. You can hang them from the railings of your deck with a copper wire, place a battery-operated “candle” in each one, and turn the lights on. It looks rustic and unique. You can also tint the mason jars with a color of your choosing prior to hanging them to help match the design theme throughout your backyard.

Glow in the Dark Planters

A fun, creative way to add some light throughout your backyard is to brighten up any planters you may have with glow in the dark paint. You can create unique designs – or even have your kids do it!

Create Your Own Chandelier

Create your own chandelier with just a few items that you can find around your home or at a home goods store. Grab a hula-hoop, holiday string lights, glue, and some string. Wrap the lights around the hula-hoop and hang the chandelier with the string. You can even create an airy look by adding light fabric around the chandelier as well, or by choosing unique colors of lights. Either way you can make it your own.

Tiki Torches

Tiki torches are always a great way to create light, with some fun. Try updating old, regular tiki torches with some fresh paint or some stringed lights around them.

Light Runner with Bottles

Re-use old beer or wine bottles by turning them into a useful light fixture. Simply clean out the bottles thoroughly and run twinkle lights through each one. You can create an assortment of different styles, or just stick to one or two. Either way, it’s a good way to recycle and to brighten up your backyard here in Austin.

If you’re looking for other ideas to get creative with the lights in your backyard, or if you’d like to totally revamp your backyard, give our crew at Handyman Connection of Austin a call. Our expert craftsmen are here to help!
