Kitchens are one of the busiest parts of your house, and out of all the items in your kitchen one of the first things that will be worn out will be your sink. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the wide range of choices for new sinks. To choose the best option for your home, evaluate your kitchen space and your needs based on these three main sink types. Handyman Connection® of Winter Park explains more:
Flush Mount Sinks
A flush mount or tile edge sink is installed in a cutout in your countertop. The only difference between this and a drop-in sink is that it used on tiled surfaces. The tiled surface is installed so that it is flush with the mounting flange in the sink. If you already have a tiled countertop, then a flush mount sink is a good choice.
Undermount Sinks
Undermount sinks are installed below your countertops. With this arrangement, you can wipe off liquids and anything on the countertop surface directly into the sink. A sink like this is a good choice for busy kitchens. In addition, this sink is compatible with many solid surface countertop materials such as granite, marble and soapstone.
Drop-In Sinks
Also called self-rimming sinks, these sinks are easy to install. They fit easily into a cutout in your countertop that’s on top of a cabinet and they are supported by the flanges overlapping the cutout. However, debris can sometimes get caught at the edge where your sink and countertop meet. Prevent this by not sweeping any food and liquid into the sink. Drop-in sinks look good in many kinds of kitchens.
