Bathroom / October 17, 2019
Painting your bathroom in a different color scheme is a relatively inexpensive and quick way to transform its appearance. However, painting the bathroom can be a bit more complicated than painting the other rooms in your house. For instance, you’ll have to paint around the sink, tub, toilet, mirror and other bathroom features. You also need to choose the right paint finish. In today’s post, we’ll give you tips to help you paint your bathroom properly.
Experiment With Color
Paint manufacturers often have tools that allow you to upload a photo of your room and then select colors until you find one that you really like. Take advantage of this and experiment. If your bathroom is near the bedroom, then consider a color that complements the bedroom color. When choosing paint, we recommend a satin or semi-gloss finish and using self-priming paint.
Prepare the Surfaces
Paint needs a clean and dry surface to stick to so you need to properly prepare the walls. Mildew is a problem because it can prevent the paint from adhering and it can even bleed through. Remove mildew using a sponge dipped in a solution of three parts water and one part bleach. Make sure to open a window or run the exhaust fan for ventilation. Wipe down the surface you’ve cleaned with water and allow it to dry before painting.
Protect Your Bathroom’s Nooks and Crannies
Small bathrooms can be a challenge to paint because of all their nooks and crannies. Use painter’s tape and apply it to the edges of areas you don’t want to paint. When painting near these areas, use a sash brush with a tapered tip. This kind of brush is easier to control because its bristles are cut at a diagonal.
