5 Reasons Your Dishwasher Is Leaking

Having a leaking dishwasher will not only make a mess but can also cause injury if someone slips on the puddle of water. Keep in mind that serious leaks call for professional help.

In this post, your local home improvement contractor, Handyman Connection® of Winter Park, talks about the common causes of dishwasher leaks.

1. Damaged Door – Pooling water under your dishwasher’s door either means that the door latch may be bent or loose or not latching tightly. Tighten the latch or install a new latch system. You may need to replace the gasket if the dishwasher is still leaking.

2. Faulty Valves – Water inlet valves and hoses can become loose in time. It can be that the drain hose is ill-fitting. Both issues can cause water to pool out from your dishwasher. Make sure that the drain hoses are secure and the water inlet valve isn’t stuck.

3. Misaligned Dishwasher – Water will eventually escape if the dishwasher is not balanced. Place a level in the bottom of your dishwasher to keep it aligned.

4. Overfilling – The water will not drain properly if you fill your dishwasher with too much water. This can force water out of the unit. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and instructions for your dishwasher.

5. Wrong Soap – Using regular dishwashing soap or even hand washing soap can lead to leaking. This is because they foam up too much. Only use cleaning products that are meant for dishwashers.

It’s best to leave your dishwasher repairs to professionals to prevent further damage to your appliance. For your general home maintenance and repair needs, you can rely on Handyman Connection of Winter Park. Call us today at (407) 270-2348 or fill in our online form to request an estimate.
