Halloween is one of the top favorite holidays for both adults and kids. However, hazards are common on this night of trick or treating and Halloween festivities. Handyman Connection offers you these safety tips to ensure your night is full of all treats and no tricks!
Preparing for Visitors:
Replace your exterior bulbs if necessary to ensure all lighting is working
Make sure your lawn is cleared of all bikes and gardening tools to ensure no one trips on their way to the door
Restrain pets before all the kids start to arrive to decrease nervousness
Costume Safety:
Bright and reflective costumes are the easiest to see. Easy alternative would be to add reflective tape or use a reflective candy bag
Avoid costumes that drag on the ground or clunky shoes that may make them fall
Masks can limit your child’s vision or cause breathing issues on a cold evening
Wear layers to ensure warmth for the cooler evening temperatures
Trick or Treating:
Children 12 and under should stay with an adult while older children should ensure they stick in groups
Ask your children to let you know their route they are planning on doing to ensure you know where they are
Try and stay on paths and sidewalks. If you must, ensure you walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic so that motorists can see you easier
Avoid houses that are not well lit as well as houses with unfamiliar animals like big dogs
