A leak anywhere in your home is a sign of troubles in the future. Though many discount them as a small concern, leaks can do serious damage to your home when you leave them unaddressed. Finding them is not a cakewalk either, which just exacerbates the problem.
In this post, Handyman Connection of South Shore discusses the areas in your home most susceptible to leaks.
Roof, Attic Space and Ceiling
The most obvious place to look at is below the roof, specifically the attic and ceiling. Although leaks in the roof are difficult to spot, they leave an obvious trail. By looking for signs of water damage on the wooden structure in the attic or water spots on the ceiling, you can trace their origin – the damaged part of the roof or underlayment where the water enters.
Underground Leaks
The most difficult kind of leak to spot are underground leaks. Consequently, they are often the most damaging as it may take months to realize that thereās a leak in the underground pipes, usually when thereās obvious damage already.
There are two ways to spot this: one, check for areas on your property that always seem to be wet regardless of the weather. This includes the driveway and curb, as well as the street where thereās evidence of water flow. The second and more reliable option is to check your water meter. Write down the meter reading, and then donāt run any water for two to three hours. If you check again and it shows that there was usage in those hours, it means you have an underground leak.
Leaks, especially underground, are difficult to address. Let Handyman Connection of South Shore help you find leaks and correct the problems. Fill out our form, or call us today at (781) 318-8181 to learn more about our repair services.
