Home Improvement / September 29, 2026
Every home has one.
The Project Graveyard.
It’s where half-finished home improvement projects go after you’ve said, “I’ll finish that next weekend” for approximately seven months.
Maybe it’s the piece of trim leaning against the wall. The drywall patch that technically works but definitely isn’t pretty. The cabinet door sitting in the garage. Or that sticking door you’ve learned to open with a very specific combination of pulling, lifting and mild profanity.
At some point, it’s time to decide: finish it, fix it, or call somebody who will.
Some projects really aren’t that big. They just keep getting bumped to the bottom of the list.
Things like:
Individually, they may not seem urgent. But after staring at them every day for six months, they start becoming part of the family.
These are perfect projects to finally knock off the list.
Then there are the projects that started small.
You watched a video. You bought the supplies. You were feeling confident.
Three trips to the hardware store later, there are tools everywhere and you’re beginning to question several of your life choices.
That may be your sign.
Some repairs are simply easier, faster and less frustrating when you hand them over to someone who already has the tools and knows what they’re doing.
And there’s no shame in that. You gave it a shot. The project won.
Fall is a great time for Kansas City homeowners to walk around the house and make a list of all those little unfinished jobs before the holidays and colder weather arrive.
Try sorting yours into three categories:
FINISH IT: You can realistically get it done this weekend.
FIX IT: It needs a little more skill, time or equipment than you expected.
CALL US: You are officially tired of looking at it.
At Handyman Connection of Shawnee, we handle the kinds of home repairs and improvement projects that tend to linger on to-do lists far longer than anyone intended.
Drywall, carpentry, doors, trim, painting, repairs and all those miscellaneous projects that have been patiently waiting for their turn.
Your house doesn’t need a project graveyard.
And you probably have better things to do with your Saturday anyway.
