Consider These 4 Types of Sinks for Your Bathroom Remodel

Sinks to consider for your bathroom

Along with the toilet, the sink is one of the fixtures that sees the most use in a bathroom. Therefore, it has to be functional. However, the sink is also one of the main focal points in a bathroom, so it should add some aesthetic value as well. When you are planning bathroom renovations in Scarborough, choosing a sink is one of the most important decisions you have to make. Not only should it be functional and aesthetically pleasing, but it should also represent your personal style and complement the overall design scheme.

While you can choose the same type of sink that you have before, you may also make a change to something new. Here are some options to consider.

1. Wall-Mounted Sink

This type of sink doesn’t rest on the floor. Instead, it hangs from the wall using a bracket that is firmly mounted. This is a practical and utilitarian configuration. It is a good option in a small bathroom with limited space. You may be able to get the most out of the available space with a triangular sink that can fit into one of the corners. This is an unusual configuration that can also add some visual interest. A wall-mounted sink could also fit well into an industrial design scheme because the plumbing connections underneath remain exposed.

2. Pedestal Sink

A pedestal sink is essentially a wall-mounted sink. A wall bracket bears the brunt of the responsibility for securing it in place, but it also has a base resembling a pillar that rests on the ground. The base is largely ornamental, but it does serve to hide the connections underneath the sink. A pedestal sink is a classic style that can give a bathroom a more elegant look without taking up too much room. It is a more decorative alternative to a wall-mounted sink if you don’t want your bathroom to look too utilitarian.

3. Drop-in Vanity Sink

A vanity sink is one that is set up in a cabinet. Vanities are popular in larger bathrooms because the cabinets provide more storage space. One of the most common types of vanity sinks is the drop-in sink. The vanity countertop has a hole in it, and the sink is installed down into it. There is a lip around the outer rim of the sink that covers part of the counter around the opening. This rests on the countertop and helps hold the sink in place while the bowl of the sink extends below the level of the countertop. This is one of the easiest sinks to install, which might account for its popularity.

4. Vessel Sink

A vessel sink is one in which the entire sink rests on top of the vanity countertop. It is so-called because it resembles a vessel used for carrying water, such as a bowl or an ewer. A vessel sink is usually round and made out of tempered glass. The faucet has to be tall enough to discharge into the basin, and sometimes the only solution is to mount it on the wall. A vessel sink has a small hole in the bottom to accommodate the drain. This is one of the most ornamental types of sinks but it does have its downsides. It takes up so much room on the counter that it cuts down on storage space, and it can be difficult to keep clean.
