Halloween tops the list for many adults and kids alike. However, Halloween activities and trick or treating are associated with common hazards. Make sure you follow these tips from Handyman Connection to have a safe, all treat and no tricks Halloween!
Preparing for Visitors:
Remove items from your lawn that can be tripped over, like toys, bikes and gardening equipment to make your lawn less hazardous
Nervous pets are more likely to threaten kids so restrain your animals before the trick or treaters start to arrive
Replace bulbs if necessary to ensure outside working lights are in good order
Costume Safety:
Prevent your child from tripping and falling by avoiding costumes that drag on the ground or big and bulky shoes or accessories
Ensure full vision and breathing by trying to avoid masks
Add layers to the costume when the temperature drops to make sure you dress for the weather
Use a reflective treat bag or put reflective tape on costumes that are not bright
Trick or Treating:
Know in advance which route your children will take
Keep to paths and sidewalks
To avoid falling, make sure each kid has a flashlight
Avoid unfamiliar animals and not well-lit houses
Older kids should travel in a group and not alone. Anyone under 12 should be accompanied by an adult
