3 Ways To Add More Storage To Your Home

It seems that no matter how large of a home we start out with, or how much storage is available, we always seem to need more storage.

It seems that no matter how large of a home we start out with, or how much storage is available, we always seem to need more storage.  Renting a storage unit is impractical for seasonal or occasional-use items because when you need them most you either cannot find them or have to go searching through your storage unit for them.  Also, renting a storage unit is a monthly expense that adds up quickly.  When you seem to need more storage, or simply, better storage, look no further than your own home.  Often, what is needed most is a renovation of existing space to make it more practical and efficient.  Below we discuss three easy ways to add a significant amount of storage to your home so that you can get your home organized.

1. Closet Remodel

  • If you are like most people, your closet (even if it is a walk-in) could stand to be reorganized.  Many standard closets simply do not maximize the available space properly.  When you have a professional closet organization system installed by a contractor or handyman that utilizes every possible inch you will be amazed at not only how organized a closet can be, but how, without expanding square footage you still end up with much more storage space.

2. Laundry Remodel

  • A laundry room is often an overlooked space in the house.  Laundry rooms are the ideal space to add storage, such as shelving or cabinetry, that goes all the way to the ceiling for enhanced storage.  While you may not store your clothing or books in the laundry room, think of all the items you could store in there that would be useful either for laundry-related tasks or that are simply not used every day such as candles or craft supplies.  Many laundry rooms have dead or wasted space that cannot be used for much else other than added cabinetry or shelving but that is ok, take advantage of that space rather than wasting it and add some custom cabinetry or shelving.

3. Pantry Remodel

  • A few shelves in a closet or cabinet can function as a pantry, but it is not the most practical or ideal way to use your pantry.  Pantries frequently have deep shelving where items disappear into what seems to be a “black hole” of food, only to be found again, and subsequently thrown away, when spring cleaning rolls around.  Pantries tend to have a variety of items that are assorted shapes and sizes so a few standard shelves really does not maximize the space.  By having a contractor or handyman install some pull out shelves or a pantry organization systems with customizable options, you can enhance your pantry storage space so that you can store more than a few cans or cereal boxes, you can store other kitchen appliances or entertaining items that are used less frequently to free up more cabinet space in your kitchen.
