Tips for Choosing Outdoor Pavers

Spending time outside in your yard is one of the many luxuries of owning a home. You can make your yard your own, adding personal touches that accommodate your lifestyle and the way you choose to spend time outside.

Spending time outside in your yard is one of the many luxuries of owning a home.  You can make your yard your own, adding personal touches that accommodate your lifestyle and the way you choose to spend time outside.  One way to increase the livability of your outdoor space is with patio pavers.  Whether you use them to extend your patio, create a new patio altogether or add pathways through your yard, patio pavers add convenience and a touch of luxury.  Today, there are many patio pavers available on the market for any design style, personal taste or space needs.  With so many options, how does one chose the perfect patio paver for their home?  It is important to consider how you intend to use your yard, whether or not you will entertain often and the types of weather your pavers will face.  Considering those things will help narrow your choices and lastly, by considering your personal design tastes, your decision will be much easier.   Below is a list of our tips for choosing patio pavers when you want to upgrade your outdoor living space.

  • Brick Pavers

Brick patio pavers are a traditional choice and offer a classic, timeless look.  Brick pavers are available in a variety of shades but are more limited in their shape and size, with fewer varieties than other types of pavers.  They are very durable and will stand the test of time and wear and tear from the elements, looking great for generations to come.  While they are low maintenance, they can chip or crack over time but the broken brick can be removed and replaced with relative ease.

  • Concrete Pavers

Concrete pavers come in a vast array of styles, colors, sizes and designs.  They offer an incredible amount of versatility for any of your design needs.  In addition to coming in a variety of styles, they are also a more cost effective option when choosing pavers and are actually less expensive than brick pavers.  Concrete pavers are poured into molds to create designs and patterns and the individual pavers can then be assembled in whatever configuration you need.  Because they are specifically designed to be installed together, they assemble very easily in your pattern of choice.

  • Natural Stone

Flagstone, slate, marble and more beautiful stone can be installed throughout your yard to create a patio or pathway that looks natural and blends well with the surrounding environment.  Houselogic explains the benefits of using natural stone for patio pavers in your landscape, “Almost any stone can work as a paver, but most are either sandstone, limestone, slate, or granite. The materials you select will be especially cost-efficient if they come from locally operated quarries; check your local stone supplier before looking at national home improvement chains. Stone pavers are cut into modular shapes; 6-by-12, 12-by-12, and 18-by-18-inch sizes are standard. Uncut pavers have rough, irregular edges and come in various sizes.  When it comes to installing uncut stone, an experienced pro works quickly and is your best bet for a good-looking patio with even spaces between stones.”
