The bathroom is one of the most high-traffic parts of your house. If the bathroom has problems–whether functional or aesthetic–it can negatively impact your daily routine and your enjoyment of your home.
Handyman Connection® of Orange County lists six bathroom issues below that you need to address as soon as possible:
Mold – If your bathroom isn’t adequately ventilated or properly cleaned on a regular basis, you can expect to face mold problems. Not only can mold be costly to remediate–it can jeopardize the health and safety of your household. As soon as you spot mold, be sure to have it removed.
Poor Ventilation – Every bathroom needs a good ventilation system to counteract the humidity and moisture in the space. If you notice that the humidity lingers for a long while after you’ve showered, take a good look at your vents. It’s possible that the fans might be damaged or the ventilation itself might have be improperly installed, which will require the services of a professional to fix.
Leaks – Leaks, whether they’re from the sink, shower or toilet, can cause your water bill to spike. Thankfully, this issue can easily be fixed by shutting off the water, removing the fixture and asking your local hardware store for advice. You may need to replace a part or the whole faucet entirely.
Clogs – Clogged drains and toilets are bothersome issues that no homeowner wants to experience. Thankfully, like leaks, they’re usually easy to fix. Simply take a plunger and start pumping them to unclog the pipes. If this fails to work, you may need to use a drain snake or toilet auger.
Slow Drains – If there are many people using the bathroom in rapid succession and your bathroom has slow drains, this can cause water to back up. Oftentimes, this is caused by debris like hair being lodged in the plumbing, but it can easily be remediated by pouring hot water or drainage products down the drain. If this doesn’t work, you may need to have a professional take the pipes apart to remove the debris.
Running Toilet – A toilet that constantly runs can cause your water bill to skyrocket. To remediate this, take a minute to inspect your tank and determine if the flapper chain is stuck. If the chain is the problem area, you may need to make some simple adjustments or have it replaced entirely.
