While looking around your house, if you want to add another hangout spot — especially for the outdoor seasons — you may consider adding a deck or porch to your home. But, if you’re wanting something that’s a little more low maintenance, consider a paver patio.
A paver patio can create an outdoor space that’s uniquely yours. Whether you want a spot to grill, enjoy a fire, gather family and friends, or all the above, a paver patio has the functionality to do it! Here are the top things to remember before getting started.
A paver patio is something with a little dedication and helping hands you can finish in a weekend. First, go to your local hardware store before getting started to acquire all of the materials you will need.
The first thing you will need to do is mark off the area that you want to place the paver patio. You can accomplish this by using some spray paint and mason line. After doing this, you can use a shovel and other tools to dig out and clear the space to begin.
After digging, you’ll need to lay the base. You need to compress and compact the area to create a solid base to lay the sand.
Once the base is down, you’ll need to add sand and ensure you are following the correct level. Remember, you’ll want the paver patio to slope slightly down and away from your house to assist with water runoff and drainage.
Now, you can lay the stones down on top of the sand. If you need to cut any, make sure to measure and use a masonry saw to get the correct shape and size. After you’ve finished laying the stones in patio, you can add a different, decorative edge around the area.
Lastly, you can place a light layer of sand on top of the patio and use a push broom to fill the gaps. This will help lock the stones into place.
