Your home’s indoor air quality is vital to the comfort and health of your family. In this post, Handyman Connection of Matthews discusses three ways to improve your home’s indoor air quality.
Eliminate the Source
Arguably the most effective way to improve indoor air quality is to eliminate the source or individual sources that are causing the its decline. In older homes, for example, you’ll want to contain and seal asbestos. Other ways involve reducing emissions. Gas stoves, in particular, are notorious for causing dips in indoor air quality. Reducing emissions or switching to an electric stove will address this.
Improve Interior Ventilation
Contrary to popular belief, most HVAC systems don’t actually bring fresh air into the house. In fact, relying on them too much often causes your home’s spaces to feel damp, which isn’t a good thing. Improving your interior ventilation is as easy as opening windows and doors and letting natural air in.
For damp rooms, we recommend you turn on a strong fan and let it blow some fresh air into the space. Just make sure you open the windows while you do this so you can properly let out the damp and sticky air.
Clean the Air Artificially
Finally, you can also clear your interior atmosphere with air cleaners. There are many types and sizes to choose from on the market – ranging from relatively inexpensive ones to whole-house systems. Not all air cleaners are the same though. Some are better at removing particles in the air or reducing dampness, so make sure to check the label!
