6 Tips for Maximizing Your Small Bathroom Space

While advantageous because they need fewer materials, small bathrooms pose limitations not just in space but also in terms of design and styling. When not carefully styled and designed, a small bathroom can look and feel cramped. In this post, Handyman Connection® of Matthews shares some of the best ways to maximize your small bathroom space.

Remove Anything That Sticks Out From the Walls

If you have a narrow bathroom, make sure that there’s nothing sticking out from its walls. This means removing the towel bar installed on the wall. Alternatively, you can mount the bar on the back of the door. Decorative shelves may need to go, too.

Opt for Clear Shower Enclosures

To create the illusion of having more space and minimize visual clutter, opt for a clear shower enclosure that has minimal hardware. This will prevent the creation of visual division, so you can see the bathroom in its entirety.

Maximize Every Available Nook for Storage

If you want your bathroom to have storage for must-haves such as toiletries, towels, toilet paper and the like, you have to maximize every nook to create storage. Some of the wasted spaces in a bathroom include the vertical space above the toilet tank, as well as the space beneath the sink and behind the door.

Choose a Small Vanity

If you want to add a vanity in your small bathroom, it’s important that you choose the smallest one available. You may also go for a simple pedestal or wall-mounted sink.

Install Floor Tiles Diagonally

Installing floor tiles diagonally will make the bathroom look bigger, thanks to optical illusion.

Use Only Two Paint Colors

Limit yourself to two paint colors to keep the bathroom from looking too busy. This also applies to wallpaper, rugs, window treatments and other accessories.
