4 Easy DIY Paint Projects You Can Do on a Weekend

Painting projects are easy-to-do weekend projects that can improve parts of your home. You can give old parts and furniture new look, to add a splash of color to an otherwise dull area of your home. Handyman Connection of Matthews recommends the following activities on your next free weekend.

  1. Add an Accent Wall — An accent wall is a wall that is styled differently from the rest of the room. You can choose to add a focal point like a large piece of art, install textured material like faux-brick or simply paint it with a contrasting color. The latter is the easiest to accomplish; however, you should plan the color palette carefully. Alternatively, instead of a single color, use a wall stencil to create an accent wall with more visual interest.

  1. Repaint Furniture — You probably have a few pieces of furniture that may look beat-up but are still structurally sound. This makes them ideal for a weekend furniture repainting project. In addition to freshening up their looks, this is an opportunity to give the same furniture a uniform look, which would look great if you intend to put them in the same room. Before you start painting, make sure you address issues such as cracks and missing or loose nails.

  1. Repaint the Front Door — The front door serves as the beacon that guides visitors’ eyes to your home, so it only makes sense to have a front door that pops out from the rest of the house. The good thing about front entry door colors is that they can be a completely different color from the roof, siding or trim. As with the furniture, make sure structural issues are addressed before you start repainting. Also, check if your front door is still within warranty, and if it is, check with your contractor if the warranty allows repainting.

  1. Chalkboard Paint for the Playroom — A chalkboard wall is a great addition to the playroom. You can use it as an educational tool, a reminder corner for yourself or even as a way to keep your little ones from drawing anywhere else in the house.
