Home Maintenance / October 23, 2018
Paint colors can influence the mood and appearance of your home’s interior. You may want to make a statement through bold colors, or use soft hues to give your room subtlety. Whatever the design outlook, interior painting is one of the more manageable home improvement projects you can do to beautify your home.
There are, however, things you should remember when pursuing this endeavor. Here are some do’s and don’ts of interior painting.
Do Test a Variety of Colors
Choosing the right color may seem overwhelming. Good thing there are sample quarts of paint you can purchase for you to test out. You can apply a paint of a specific color on any material that you have (a foam board will do) and move around your room. You will see if the paint color works well or not, especially at different times of the day.
Do Prepare the Area
Be sure to remove your furniture and any wall hangings. This will clear space for you to work as well as keep your belongings safe from spills and splashes. You can also protect your floor by laying down old newspaper. Lastly, consider creating a staging area in the middle of, or just beyond, the work area so that everything you need will be within reach. This includes paint cans, brushes and rollers among others.
Don’t Paint Without Enough Ventilation
The paints’ fumes can make you dizzy, so be sure to keep the doors and windows open for the air to circulate. You can, however, cover your nose with a face mask to protect you further.
Don’t Forget to Consider the Finish
Apart from choosing the paint color, it is also important that you choose the type of finish or sheen that comes with it. It can, in fact, provide a lasting impact on your walls and other painted areas of your room. Available options include gloss, satin, and eggshell, all of which have different qualities.
