Necessary Preparations

Afterward, sand away any imperfections and fill any uneven areas with a drywall compound. Let this dry for at least 24 hours and sand it smooth. This ensures that you have an even surface to work with. Wipe dust off the walls using a damp sponge. Once dried you can apply a primer to ensure that your wallpaper sticks completely. Use a roller to apply on large surface areas and a putty knife as a shield when working on the trim. Let this dry for two hours before hanging the wallpaper.

Ensure a proper application the first time by drawing a guide on the wall. Make sure you use a straightedge and level for plumb lines.
