Kitchens are used everyday for entertaining, cooking, and bonding. Your sink is the first item that will get worn out. When replacing your kitchen sink, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the choices, especially with the range of styles and types available. At Handyman Connection of Matthews, we note that the key to selecting the right sink is to properly evaluate your space and needs based on these three main types:
Self-Rimming Sinks
Also called drop-in sinks, these are a popular choice because of their easy installation. They fit easily into a cutout in your countertop that’s on top of a cabinet and are supported by the flanges of your sink overlapping the cutout. Their main disadvantage, however, is that debris can get caught at the edge where your sink and countertop meet. You can prevent this by avoiding sweeping any food and liquid into the sink.
Flush Mount Sinks
Similar to a drop-in sink, a flush mount or tile edge sink is installed in a cutout in your countertop. The only difference is that they are used on tiled surfaces, hence the name. Tile is necessary so that it is flush with the mounting flange in the sink. This results in a flush surface with your countertop. If you already have a tiled countertop, then a flush mount sink is an excellent choice.
Under Mount Sinks
Unlike the other two types, under mount sinks are installed below your countertops. With this setup, you can wipe liquids and anything on the surface straight into the sink, making it a great addition to busy kitchens. Additionally, this sink is compatible with various solid surface countertop materials such as granite, marble, and soapstone with a variety of durable sinks.
The sink is the workbench of your kitchen, which is why it’s important to choose a unit that you can enjoy for years. Interested in a brand new sink for your home? At Handyman Connection of Matthews, our professional team can help ensure the expert installation of your kitchen sink. Regardless of the type you choose, we can provide impeccable services.
